Our Aims:

  • Provide the opportunity to patients to optimise and regain function, recover independence and restore confidence through person-centred, multidisciplinary-led rehabilitation
  • Provide medical oversight to ensure that patient care within the rehabilitation service is safe, clinically appropriate, and aligned with best practice through ongoing medical assessment, monitoring, and leadership.
  • Support safe discharge and empower older persons to remain living in the community
  • Further develop and embed specialist rehabilitation pathways
  • Continuously strive to improve safe person-centred patient care through audit, quality improvement training, and research activities

Education

  • The medical department supports clinical placements for undergraduate medical students from University College Dublin.
  • A Senior House Officer post based on an Older Persons ward is provided to a GP trainee doctor.
  • Medical journal club is held at lunchtime every Thursday.
