Patient Food Safety
Standards and Controls
In collaboration with the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Catering Department is committed to providing nutritionally balanced meals in line with HIQA standards to help promote patient health, wellbeing and recovery. A robust and effective HACCP system is in place to ensure food safety and quality. We aim to cater for all therapeutic and texture modified diets.
Food Safety Award:
Our Catering Department proudly boasts The Food Safety Assurance Award, which is awarded by the Food Safety Professionals Association, Ireland’s national food safety experts, in recognition of organisations operating with the highest statutory hygiene and food safety standards.
Requirements over Permitted Food
For patient safety, patients should only eat food supplied by the Clontarf Hospital Catering Department during their stay, as outside food may increase the risk of food-related illness or may not meet specific dietary or medical requirements.
Unfortunately, the hospital cannot accept responsibility for food consumed by patients that has not been supplied by our catering services.
Mealtimes and Special Dietary Requirements

It provides a tranquil setting for meditation, prayer and quiet contemplation away from the busy ward areas.
Chaplaincy Services
The Chaplaincy Department works with other disciplines in providing a holistic inter-denominational service that is geared to total patient care and ministry to the family. Chaplaincy ministry is about expressing respect and care, about listening in an empathetic way and helping to create a space which recognises the spiritual needs of the patient and family. The hospital chaplain visits once a week, usually on Mondays. If you wish to speak with the chaplain please inform a member of staff looking after you.
