Medical
The medical department is composed of Consultants and Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors (NCHDs), who provide evidence-based, person-centred medical care within the multidisciplinary team during the inpatient rehabilitation admission.
Services Provided:
- Rehabilitation of Older Persons following acute admission to Beaumont Hospital and Mater Misericordiae University Hospital
- Rehabilitation following Orthopaedic Surgery
- Specialist Neuro-Rehabilitation
- Prosthetic Rehabilitation following limb amputation
- Rehabilitation via the Integrated Care Programme for Older Persons pathway with admissions directly from the community and the emergency department in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital
Service Hours:
The medical teams are on wards Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm with on-site on-call NCHD cover after 5pm and during the weekend.

- Provide the opportunity to patients to regain function, recover independence and restore confidence through person-centred, multidisciplinary-led rehabilitation
- Support and empower older persons to remain living in the community
- Further develop and embed specialist rehabilitation pathways
- Continuously strive to improve safe patient care through audit, quality improvement training, and research activities
- The medical department supports clinical placements for undergraduate medical students from University College Dublin.
- A Senior House Officer post based on an Older Persons ward is provided to a GP trainee doctor.
- Medical journal club is held at lunchtime every Thursday.
